Social Media Marketing at The Artisans Gallery on Howe: How It Works and Why It Matters

If you've ever wondered how to get the word out about your Gallery event, why we ask for your event information by a specific deadline, or why we place so much emphasis on photos and details, this post is for you. Social media marketing is one of the most powerful tools we have for bringing visitors through our doors, and the team behind it works hard every week to ensure your events get the attention they deserve. Understanding how the process works and what role you play in it makes all the difference.

Why Social Media Marketing Matters

We're not just posting for the sake of posting. Social media is now the primary way people discover local arts events, and the numbers back it up:

  • Social media is tied with friends and family as the #1 way adults learn about arts events they attend (National Endowment for the Arts, 2025)

  • 83% of event marketers use social media as their top promotion channel, ahead of search and video (Statista, 2025)

  • 64% of Gen Z and 61% of Millennials use social media specifically to find things to do (Eventbrite TRNDS Report, 2025)

  • Events promoted on social media sold on average 3.5x more tickets than those without social promotion (Eventbrite, 2025)

  • 79% of adults 58+ are primarily on Facebook — our core audience is there, and they are paying attention (Eventbrite, 2025)

  • 89% of event-goers say they want events that connect them to their local community, and local art walks saw 49% attendance growth in 2025-2026 (Eventbrite Social Study, 2026)

The bottom line: a beautiful event with no promotion is a missed opportunity. Our committee exists to make sure that doesn't happen, but we can only work with what you give us.

How Our Committee Works

The AGH Publicity Committee meets every Friday morning to plan and prepare social media content for the following week's events. That means your submission needs to be in our hands before that meeting: the Thursday before the week you want promotion.

Miss that deadline, and we simply may not have time to include your event. This isn't a preference or a punishment; it's a workflow reality.

We handle Facebook and Instagram for The Artisans Gallery on Howe, crafting posts, reels, and carousels designed to reach our community and beyond. What we cannot do is invent details, chase down photos, or guess at your availability. That's where you come in.

How to Submit: Our Wix Forms

We use dedicated Wix forms to keep submissions organized and consistent. Please use the appropriate form for your event:

New Member Profile Form (gets you on our website with a link to your preferred social platform): https://artisanspublicity.wixforms.com/f/7426346361676629020

Steering Committee Digital Media Request Form (for other committee events desiring social media promotion): https://artisanspublicity.wixforms.com/f/7423825604530668601

These forms are straightforward, but they only work if you fill them out completely and on time.

What We Need From You: Non-Negotiable

Regardless of which form you submit, every submission must include:

  • High-quality photos of the work you are promoting. This is not optional. Posts without strong visuals do not perform well and don't represent you or the gallery at our best. Please submit clear, well-lit images.

  • All relevant details: event name, dates, times, and any links to your personal social media pages.

  • Your submission by Thursday before the week you want coverage.

We are a volunteer committee (like you!) that dedicates real time and creative energy to this work. Respecting our process is how you honor that.

Every Gallery Member's Role: This Means You

Here's something every single one of our 60+ members should understand: our posts are a starting point, not the finish line. The reach of any post depends heavily on what happens in the first hour after it goes live, and that's where YOU come in. All of you.

Whether you are a featured artist that month, an Art on the Porch participant, or simply a proud member of this gallery, promoting AGH on social media is part of what it means to belong to this community. We are all in the business of getting eyes on our work and warm bodies through that door. The Publicity Committee cannot do that alone.

When we post about any event, any artist, or any news about The Artisans Gallery on Howe, here's what every member should do:

  • Like and comment on the post. Engagement from real people, especially people connected to the gallery, signals to the algorithm that the content is worth sharing more widely.

  • Share it to your personal Facebook profile. Every share puts our content in front of a new circle of people who may never have heard of us.

  • Share to your Instagram Stories and tag us. Story interactions are one of the strongest ranking signals on Meta right now.

  • Leave a genuine comment, not just an emoji. Meaningful comments trigger broader distribution on both Facebook and Instagram. Tell people why the event matters, what you love about the featured artist's work, and why they should come.

  • Send the post directly to people you think would enjoy it, via DM, text, email, or word of mouth. Personal recommendations are still the most powerful marketing tool that exists.

  • Share to any relevant Facebook groups you belong to: community groups, arts groups, local interest groups. Our community extends well beyond our current followers.

Think of it this way: if all 60 members shared every AGH post to their own networks, our reach would multiply dramatically overnight without spending a single dollar on advertising.

Here's why this matters, straight from current data on how Meta's algorithms work in 2026:

  • Facebook's algorithm heavily prioritizes meaningful engagement over passive impressions. Posts that don't generate comments or shares within the first hour get limited reach. (Digitac Media, 2026)

  • On Instagram, shares are now the most important signal. When someone sends your content to a friend, it tells the algorithm the post is worth distributing more widely. (Later, 2026)

  • Keywords in captions and profiles are now more effective for discovery than hashtags, and carousels consistently outperform single images. (Buffer, 2026)

  • A Reel you're likely to watch for 10+ seconds gets prioritized over a photo you'd scroll past, so when we post a reel, watch it all the way through before you share it. (Hootsuite, 2026)

  • Reels get distributed to non-followers at significantly higher rates than static posts, meaning every share of a reel reaches people who have never seen our page before. (PostEverywhere, 2026)

Our committee works every week to create content that beautifully represents this gallery. The single most effective thing you can do to support that work costs nothing and takes thirty seconds: engage with every post we publish, every time.

This is one of the most valuable contributions you can make to The Artisans Gallery on Howe's success.

A Final Word

The Artisans Gallery on Howe is a community, and our social media presence reflects that. Every post we create is a small act of advocacy for you and your work. The more you engage with and support that effort, the more visible our gallery becomes for all of us.

Thank you for being part of what makes this community special. Now go fill out your forms! 😄
